Mechanical Technician

A fantastic opportunity has arisen at truly amazing client of ours. This role is Monday-Friday attracting a salary of between £33,000 - £38,000 DOE.

Key purpose of the role? The successful applicant will be responsible for the mechanical servicing and repairs at a prestigious, state of the art facility.

Whilst reporting to the sites Service Coordinator the main duties of this role includes:
- Responsible for providing mechanical planned and preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance on all plant, systems and services.
- Monitor and fault diagnose the computer controlled building management systems (BMS).
- The operation of steam boilers and systems. Steam is used extensively throughout the sites. Training will be given if required.
- Liaise with end Users to discuss, agree and evaluate minor refurbishment works.
- Undertake various mechanical works on behalf of the Estates & Facilities Section. This will include supervising external service providers.
- Mentor apprentices.

* The most challenging aspect of the job will be to interrogate complex BMS systems and take the appropriate action to determine root cause of faults and provide appropriate response / escalation as necessary.

Additional information - You will be required to undertake out-of-hours on call duties, this will cover approximately 6 weeks a year.


Previous work experience required:
Essential:
Good working knowledge of engineering services coupled with a good understanding of aspects of building maintenance including BMS, natural and laboratory gas systems, reverse osmosis deionised water systems, steam boilers, ground source heat pumps (GSHP), complex automated lighting systems, fire alarm & fire suppression systems, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), standby electrical generators, air compressors, chillers, heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), Air Handling units (AHU), humidification and dehumidification plant, etc.

Desirable:
Experience of Steam Systems.

Education/Qualification:
Essential:
Completed a recognised Mechanical apprenticeship or hold the equivalent qualifications or have the equivalent experience. Hold a valid driving licence.
Desirable:
Formal Health & Safety (H&S) qualifications and ability to undertake risk assessments.

Boiler Operation Accreditation Scheme (BOAS) certificate.
