This company have been around for nearly 100 years and are global experts in their industry! With four offices across the world (this one is based on Cambridge Science Park), they are thriving and looking for a Quality Engineer to provide technical quality engineering support to NPD and manufacturing teams.


The company manufacture connectors and components for use in harsh environments used in a variety of industries, such as automotive, industrial, marine, telecoms and oil and gas.

We are looking for someone with knowledge of design control principles and quality engineering techniques who will identify and mitigate risks in design, facilitate transfer and promote design for manufacturability. You will be needed to support in the new engineering request process. As a member of a cross-functional team, you will interface with Operations and suppliers to limit risks throughout the product life cycle. In parallel, it will be your job to ensure that products adhere to regulatory requirements, customer expectations and industry standards.

There will be some occasional global travel.

The Role…

* Integrate quality into NPI projects, requests and changes in all phases of the product life cycle
* Take responsibility for regulatory inspections
* Collaborate with the wider team to assure appropriate quality requirements are defined and conveyed throughout the product life cycle and supply chain
* Drive the creation of a risk management plan throughout the project and development
* Support risk assessment activities through DFMEA, PFMEA, etc
* Support development, implementation and maintenance of design verification and validation methodologies and best practices to impact product launch timeliness, improve implementation of design enhancements and reduce number of design iterations
* Be the Quality gate approval representative for NPD and NPI projects
* Support Prototype, Pilot and Product Launch and Ship Acceptance activities
* Perform design QC activities
* Work with internal teams to translate design requirements into manufacturing requirements to improve manufacturability, reduce scrap and maximise operational efficiency
* Support compliance assessments to ensure quality and regulatory requirements are successfully implemented and maintained, by ensuring product compliance with all environmental directives, including REACH, RoHS, WEEE, POP, etc
* Support complaint management and after sales activities by completing robust investigations
* Drive actions from previous post-project/lessons learnt reviews to closure, including process/product audits
* Provide comprehensive release assessments and ensure quality metric dashboards are accurate and updated

Essential…


* Degree in a Mechanical or Electrical subject with 5+ years' engineering experience
* 2+ Years' QA experience, including quality systems, standards, metrics, and tools
* Significant experience working with new product design/development projects or sustaining engineering projects
* Experience in complying with design controls and mentoring other organisational partners regarding design control requirements and expectations
* Demonstrable knowledge of ISO 9001/TS 16949 QMS requirements
* Proven ability to act as Subject Matter Expert related to design controls, design files, verification and validation plans and process characterisation programmes, such as failure mode and effects analysis, process mapping, identification of critical parameters, process capability, design of experiments, statistical process control
* Commodity Knowledge: injection moulded components, plating, pressing, LEDs, sensors, switches, fuse holders, indicators
* ISO 9001 Lead or Internal Auditor
* Strong organisational skills and able to prioritise workflow to meet schedules
* Able to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams
* IT Proficient - MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Minitab
