I am excited to be partnering exclusively with a rapidly growing and forward-thinking construction services company based in the Cambridge area as they look to appoint a dynamic and experienced Finance Manager.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive finance professional who thrives in a hands-on SME environment and is looking to take ownership of the finance function.

About the Role
Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will lead the day-to-day finance operations and play a key role in driving process improvements, managing compliance, and delivering high-quality financial insight across the business. This is a varied and impactful role that offers significant scope for development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments, and forecasts
  • Oversight of accounts payable and receivable
  • Management of cash flow and cashbook reconciliations
  • Monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Preparation and submission of VAT and CIS returns, including liaison with HMRC
  • Payroll management (through an external provider)
  • Collaboration with project managers for cost tracking and forecasting
  • Continuous improvement of financial controls, systems, and reporting processes
  • Line management of a small finance team (2 direct reports)


Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in a similar finance role within a construction or manufacturing SME
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, operationally focused environment
  • Proficiency with Xero accounting software
  • Solid understanding of CIS and VAT requirements
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills with high attention to detail
  • Experience managing month-end processes and financial controls
  • Excellent communication skills, especially when working with non-finance colleagues
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently


Qualifications

  • Part-qualified, finalist, or newly qualified (ACCA/CIMA) OR Qualified by experience (QBE) with a strong track record in SME finance
