Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to take on a strategic leadership role within a high-risk operational environment. This position is critical in ensuring the safety and well-being of our team members and supporting vital scientific endeavours. The ideal candidate will possess a strong track record in operational delivery within a similarly challenging field and will be able to think strategically and creatively to meet organisational needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and set the agenda for effective safety and quality management.
- Provide expert advice and leadership on Health, Safety & Quality (HS&Q) matters, both in the UK and in remote, challenging environments.
- Ensure the effectiveness of safety systems, including risk assessments, accident management, and compliance through audits and monitoring.
- Drive a program of continual improvement, working closely with directors and managers across the organisation.
- Champion the adoption of a robust occupational health & safety management system to safeguard all staff and visitors.
- Lead and support the Safety Management Team, providing guidance on HS&Q management, and driving innovation to ensure the organisation remains fit for the future.
- Oversee staff management, including training, appraisals, and succession planning.
- Manage departmental budgets and ensure cost-effective operational delivery.
- Prepare, review, and maintain plans, procedures, and policies to ensure compliance, operational efficiency, and preparedness for emergencies.
Qualifications:
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification in occupational health and safety.
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in a strategic health and safety role within a high-risk environment.
- Strong leadership abilities, with a focus on innovation, strategic thinking, and operational excellence.
- Ability to work proactively with senior management to implement a culture of continuous improvement.
- Experience in managing budgets and resources effectively.
