Job Title: IT Support Engineer (2nd Line Support)

Salary: £30,000 - £40,000

Type Of Employment: Permanent

Location: Peterborough Onsite

Working hours: Monday - Friday between shifts between 09:00 - 17:30

Are you an IT Engineer with 2nd line support experience looking for new challenge? If so we have an exciting opportunity for you to join one of our local clients based in Peterborough.

We are looking for a well-rounded IT generalist who has experience as a 2nd Line support engineer and enjoys both remote and client facing support. This is a diverse role that would suit those seeking a position with a broad range of varying day to day responsibilities, ranging from support to onsite installs/customer surveys for new clients and new client projects.

As an IT Engineer you will:

  • Providing 2nd line support for IT issues troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking problems.
  • Escalate complex issues to 3rd line support or external vendors while maintaining ownership of the issue until resolution.
  • Implementing and manage system backups and recovery plans.
  • Assist in configuring and deploying new hardware and software solutions.
  • Monitor IT systems for issues, perform regular maintenance, and apply updates as needed.
  • Document all technical issues and resolutions within our ticketing system, maintaining clear and comprehensive records.
  • Develop and maintain IT documentation, including system manuals and IT inventory.
  • Provide training and guidance to 1st line support technicians and end-users.
  • Participate in IT projects, including system upgrades and migrations.
  • Ensure compliance with IT policies, procedures, and best practices.

You will ideally possess all or most of the following skill/experience:

  • Full driving license is a must
  • Proven experience in a 2nd line IT support role
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex IT issues
  • Be an enthusiastic, client facing individual with a customer first mentality
  • Ability to work as both with a team and independently
  • Experience working in a fast paced, pressured environment
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server environments, Active Directory, and Office 365.
  • General experience of networking principles and firewalls (TCP/IP, VPN, DHCP/DNS, firewall configurations)
  • Watchguard experience is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., Azure, AWS) is highly desirable.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Fundamentals, Cisco CCNA) are advantageous
