We're recruiting for an enthusiastic MOCVD Scientist/Engineer with experience in the semiconductor industry to join a growing research team based in St Ives, which is just north of Cambridge. They boast impressive R&D facilities which sit in a beautiful, rural village location.

The thin film semiconductor devices they are developing are game changing products and this is a very exciting time to be joining the company. The company is going from strength to strength and through their products, they are delivering significantly improved, more accessible technologies in industries ranging from medical science through to green, renewable energy.

The Role:

  • Development of new MOCVD based thin film materials growth techniques and processes
  • Production of graphene, semiconductor and two-dimensional material layers and structures
  • Delivery of required materials and thin film structures into technology projects and products
  • Management of the material production and testing schedules
  • Compile updates for management review teams
  • Document and implement R&D practices, approaches and policies
  • Prepare project updates for internal meetings
  • Help to maintain and grow R&D facility and capabilities
  • Analyse, document and record results in accordance with company processes & procedures

Must Haves:

  • PhD in a relevant subject, OR degree level with experience in R&D or industry
  • Several years' experience in hands-on MOCVD epitaxy of semiconductor materials
  • Skilled in MOCVD R&D material deposition techniques with first-hand knowledge of at least one semiconductor production mechanism (eg, PVD, CVD, MBE, ALD, etc.)
  • Knowledge of materials development for device applications and device processing techniques
  • Strong applied, hands-on experimental capabilities
  • Highly proactive and organised
  • Capable of grasping scientific concepts quickly
  • Multitasker who is able to work autonomously and make decisions

Advantageous

  • Experience of other material deposition techniques such as PVD, CVD, MBE, ALD
  • Understanding of characterisation techniques, for example Raman spectroscopy AFM, Hall, PL, SEM, XRD, XPS
  • Hands-on experience with equipment including, electron-beam deposition, thermal evaporation deposition, lithography, reactive wet and dry etching
  • Understanding of two-dimensional materials, technologies, device and applications
  • Exposure to solid state device design
