Still based on the University site, they are shaping the future of Quantum information systems and have ambitious plans for the future! They have partnered with world-leading organisations and are integrating novel quantum components to form an efficient and scalable infrastructure. This is a friendly and diverse group of people who are looking for a bright, driven Photonics Engineer to join their multi-disciplined team.

The Role:

  • Design and optimise superconducting nanowire detector structures using simulation and experimental data
  • Work closely with fabrication engineers to produce practical designs to process constraints
  • Design, execute and interpret quantum optical experiments at cryogenic temperatures

About You:

  • PhD in experimental physics/engineering of superconducting photon detection systems
  • Scripting for experimental control and data analysis - ideally Python
  • Industrial / postdoc research experience developing superconducting nanowire single photon detectors preferred, ideally for quantum applications
  • Good understanding of SNSPD device physics and appreciation of practical considerations to improve device performance is desirable
  • Experience with optical and electrical measurements in 4K cryostat systems using fibre-coupled and/or free-space optics
  • Any experience with integrated photonics is desirable
  • Experience simulating mixed optical and superconducting systems is desirable
  • Experience with Lumerical simulation preferred
