The company are doing some game-changing things with graphene; one of the most fascinating and unique materials to work with!

Due to continued funding and growth, they are looking for Research Technicians to be involved with some of the following:

  • Support the team with preparation and processing of materials
  • Run standard fabrication procedures, such as thin film deposition, device singulation, assembly and electrical test
  • Perform material and electrical characterisation on device research samples (AFM, Raman, XPS, electrical measurements such as sheet resistance and Hall Effect)
  • Manage equipment parts and stock for the team
  • Support in the development of non-standard fabrication, analysis and test procedures
  • Liaise with the equipment team on routine maintenance tasks to optimise equipment performance and reliability
  • Run standard processes, prepare equipment parts and consumables to support research on both MOCVD and ALD deposition systems
  • Through a hands-on rigorous experimental approach, troubleshoot problems and issues, develop and progress solutions identified from the findings
  • Collect data and communicate results and observations, providing recommendations where appropriate for process improvement

About You:

  • Engineering/Physics/Materials Science qualification or equivalent experience
  • GCSEs in English and Maths
  • At least 2 years' experience of working in an R&D/lab/production facility, ideally in a cleanroom environment
  • Experience of fabrication and/or characterisation of thin film materials or devices
  • Experience with (or an appreciation and understanding of) vacuum deposition equipment
  • Hands-on approach to problem solving
  • Ability to record and report results accurately
  • Effective communication skills
  • UK Driving Licence is preferred

You will also need some of the following skills:

  • Experience operating a range of deposition techniques & characterisation equipment, such as MOCVD, ALD, Raman, AFM, XPS and SEM
  • Experience of vacuum equipment maintenance
  • Understanding of quantitative performance analysis, e.g. SPC, DoE
  • Understanding of basic electrical and electronic engineering
  • Background in electronic devices
  • Active interest in 2D materials
