We're looking to recruit a Scientific Patent Analyst to join one of Cambridge's R&D 'giants'. They've been leaders in their field for almost 30 years. Originally a University spin out, they're now owned by a huge global company and are now widening their activities and working on some fascinating technologies in some interesting industries.

As part of the broader Intellectual Property (IP) team, you will also work closely with the parent company in identifying potential partnership opportunities. The role will involve developing, performing, and analysing comprehensive IP landscapes, and other types of IP searches. The sort of start-ups you will be involved with will have interest in a wide range of technologies, from medical to energy and everything in between.

Your role will also involve developing and executing large IP projects, such as patent portfolio re-evaluations, process improvements, etc. For example, finding alternative cloud-based searching platforms and guiding projects through the project stage gate process from an IP perspective.

The important bits...

You will need to have have an impressive academic record with a degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry and either have an MSc in IP or have experience of working in a corporate IP team as a Patent Analyst. Alternatively, if you have a PhD in Chemistry or Biochemistry and a strong technical background, involving some awareness of patents, you can be considered as training can be provided.

Practical experience with a major patent related database, the ability to perform patent searches and interpret results for internal clients and IP colleagues is preferred but is not essential. You will have a keen interest in becoming familiar with new technologies and be creative, organised, with an aptitude for thinking about IP from a business perspective and synthesising data from multiple sources to make actionable recommendations to internal clients. You will be self-motivated, with excellent team-working and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with technical, IP and business colleagues.

Other useful experience might be that you've worked with a major patent related database and gained some experience carrying out efficient and accurate reiterations of search results that yield highly relevant data-sets and interpretation of results for internal clients and IP colleagues.

We're looking for someone who has a genuine interest in learning about new technologies; somebody creative, with the aptitude for thinking outside the box and synthesising data from multiple sources to make actionable business recommendations to clients. Naturally, you'll be a great communicator in your field and certainly across all levels of the business. A good command of English language is essential.

This company are able to offer a friendly working environment, with genuine opportunities for learning and development within their diverse team. It always says a lot about the company when staff have been there for years, and many of them have! Company benefits are generous and they also support flexible and hybrid working patterns. They're a lovely bunch! Happy to have a more in-depth with anyone interested, of course.

Location-wise, they are based about 20 minutes (drive) north of Cambridge with very easy access to the A1, A14, M11, etc. Alternatively, they are a couple of miles from a local, mainline rail station.
